Being a part of Youth City 2030's volunteers gave me a chance to express my creativity.
We had an art week and our team were responsible of the activities and the week themes. Each team member was in charge of an activity; mine was to use some of our daily uses to create an art piece.
At first, I was given a black board, some floppies and spray paint. I tried to work it out, but I thought of a better idea. I took 4 black boards and taped them together. Then, I replaced the floppies with CDs, because they are easier to find.
The first stage of the process is to draw the art piece I wanted to create, I directly thought of Marilyn Monroe. I took a pencil, started drawing her face from a pop art piece I found in Google. I laid on the board several times and sat on it to get it right. Lol!
When I finished drawing her, everyone thought it's the final look, no one ever thought that the piece contains CDs.
Then the process to ask for more CDs began. Due to the laziness of people, I had a hard time collecting unwanted CDs from people. Later on, I saw this huge amount of CDs in my brother's room! I don't know whether I shall I call it stealing or borrowing... I guess it was stealing... -woops!-
The next step is to stick the CDs on the board -using flat paper tape- and re-drawing Marilyn Monroe using white-board pens.
And that's when I received a lot of bad words about it; "I liked it better before" or "It's not clear enough" or "You just messed it up" I got devastated at first, but I ignored them; cause this is just the beginning.
Then, I started putting the flat paper tape again to spray the CDs with the wanted colors.
I remember a lot people still didn't know what I was doing! I changed the background to green. I didn't feel like "Orange". When I sprayed them, I used white glue to stick them on the board. Also, I remember wanting to give up the piece; because I only had 5 days to finish it and the spraying stage started on the 3rd day, the spray paints were running out and they wouldn't buy me new ones because of the low budget -lies-. Eventually, they bought me more...
I jumped up and down when I saw the final piece! It felt great to finish something I never thought I would achieve. Some told me her nose looks like a mustache and others told me her teeth looks weird. SCREW IT I FINISHED MY MARILYN MONROE PIECE! Yes, I still get excited when I say it!
This is me with the piece -Notice the size difference-.
That's it for now, I hoped you enjoyed it!
Lots of Love xo
